Coaching Requirements


All coaching staff is required to have a valid Respect in Sport Certificate within the last 5 years.


Things like bullying, discrimination and even abuse. They’re just some of the many difficulties kids may face. To help identify issues, every coach in Manitoba must take the Respect in Sport course. As of 2017, coaches and managers will be required to re-take it every five years.

Over the years the course has been updated to include topics such as cyber-bullying, hazing and gender identification.

Updated course includes:

  • Modification to reflect change to age of consent legislation
  • Increased messaging pertaining to Hazing
  • Increased messaging about Cyber Bullying, Discrimination effecting Lesbian, Gay and Transgender athletes
  • Social Media concerns
  • Widened the scope of the program to include any person of power/authority
  • Shortened completion time to 2.5 hours
  • Mobile friendly

RESPECT IN SPORT (RIS) RECERTIFICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Coaches who certified prior to 2016 must re-certify in 2021.

  • Go to website: https://sportmanitoba.respectgroupinc.com/ 
  • Select a language you would like to complete the course in
  • Log in to your account. If you cannot remember your information please use the "Recover username or Password" (bottom right by LOGIN button)
  • Note: the important date is your birthdate (for username recovery) You will be asked a security question (for password recovery)
  • Click on the words "RE-CERTIFY NOW" (In Black and White at the top of the page)
  • Re-certification confirmation button will appear and you will click on "YES-reset my certification"
  • One last time - "Final Recertification Confirmation--click on "reset Now- Reset my certification" 
  • You are at the program main page there are 7 modules. You do not have to do them all at once however please make sure you finish the first module before you exit or it will not be saved
  • Once you have completed all 7 modules you will be issued a new certification number that will need to be entered on your RAMP Coaching Profile

PART B

  • In your Respect in Sport Profile, make sure to check off the SOFTBALL box so Softball Manitoba can verify you have a valid certification. 
  • Go into your profile and answer "allow" to the line to NCCP question. This will allow your Respect in Sport to be shown on your NCCP transcript
  • Check that your email on your RIS is the same email you are using with Coaching Canada

 

National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP)

 

Requirement for all coaches attending Minor Provincial Championships: A, AA, AAA

In addition to the Coaching Certification Requirements listed below, coaches must complete the Respect in Sport course to be eligible to participate in any of the Softball Manitoba Minor Provincial Championships. All teams attending Canadian Championships/WCSC - One of the registered coaches/managers must have a Competition Introduction Coaching Certification Level.

1. Teams participating in a Provincial Championships not leading to a Western Canadian or a Canadian Championship require a Community Softball level coach signed on its team registration form.

2. Teams participating in a Provincial Championship leading to a Western Canadian or a Canadian Championship are required to follow Softball Canada’s Coaching Certification Requirements as follows; (As per the Nov-2018 Softball Canada AGM - Updated SOR in the 2019/20 Rulebook).

Managers and Coaches are eligible to participate in Canadian Championships under the following provisions:

  • They are signed to the current Softball Canada or Provincial/Territorial Team Registration Certificate of their team.
  • The Head Coach is Competition - Introduction Certified in the National Coaching Certification Program and is in attendance at all games and on the team’s bench. All Assistant Coaches are Competition - Introduction Trained.*
  • If the Head Coach is not fully Certified and in attendance at all games and on the team’s bench, then all coaching staff will not be allowed on the field or in the coaches box at a Canadian Championship. If the Head Coach is Certified and in attendance at all games and on the team’s bench then the coaching staff (coach, assistant coaches, and manager) may go on the field. If an Assistant Coach is not Trained they will not be allowed on the field or in the coaches box.
  • A province/territory sending a team to a Canadian Championship without the Head Coach Competition - Introduction Certified will be fined $2,500. (Two Thousand Five Hundred Dollars).
  • Managers and Coaches may not participate as players unless they are so registered.

* In 2020, for U19 all coaches (Head Coach and Assistant Coaches) must be Competition - Introduction Certified.

 

Additional Requirement for the Head Coach of a team attending U13 AAA and ALL AA Minor Provincial Championship:

  • Foundations of Coaching Softball: Part 1
  • Ongoing Participation Community Softball: Trained
  • Multi-Sport Module: Making Ethical Decisions + Online Evaluation

 

Additional Requirement for the Head Coach & Assistant Coaches of a team attending a U15, U17, and U19 AAA Minor Provincial Championship:

  • The Head Coach is Competition Introduction: Certified 
    • Foundations of Coaching Softball: Part 1
    • Foundations of Coaching Softball: Part 2
    • Competition Introduction Virtual Modules (all three)
    • Competition Introduction In-person Weekend
    • Competition Introduction Evaluation 
    • Multi-Sport Module: Making Ethical Decisions
    • Making Ethical Decisions Online Evaluation
  • Assistant Coaches are Competition Introduction: Trained
    • Foundations of Coaching Softball: Part 1
    • Foundations of Coaching Softball: Part 2
    • Competition Introduction Virtual Modules (all three)
