Special Player Rules


LTP1

  1. All games start at 6:00pm with the first 30 minutes reserved for learn to play activities. LTP activities will be implemented in a flexible fashion and will be directed by individual team coaches. This is followed by a 30 minute game.
  2. No game may go beyond 7:00pm except to finish an inning. 
  3. All players will appear on the batting order (whether they are in the field defensively or not). Eg. if 12 players show up for a game, all 12 go on the batting order and bat in turn.
  4. An offensive inning consists of once around the lineup. All players will bat in each inning.
  5. There are unlimited defensive substitutions, ie. defensive players can rotate into the game at anytime. However, the batting order cannot be changed.
  6. Lead off is not permitted - runner may only advance on a hit ball.
  7. Baseline distance - 45 feet.
  8. Each player hits from the batting tee until he/she hits a fair ball. There are no strike-outs or walks.
  9. Players are required to wear a batting helmet, when batting and/or running.
  10. The final batter of the inning must be announced as such to the opposing coach who will advise the defensive team. After the last batter completes a turn at bat, play is stopped when the ball is held at home plate by any defensive player.
  11. The Official Ball will be the 11" Indoor Flexiballs

LTP2

  2. No game may go beyond 7:15pm except to finish an inning. 
  3. All players will appear on the batting order (whether they are in the field defensively or not). Eg. if 12 players show up for a game, all 12 go on the batting order and bat in turn.
  4. An offensive inning consists of once around the lineup. All players will bat in each inning.
  5. There are unlimited defensive substitutions, ie. defensive players can rotate into the game at anytime. However, the batting order cannot be changed.
  6. Lead off is not permitted - runner may only advance on a hit ball.
  7. Baseline distance - 45 feet.
  8. The coach or designate shall pitch to his/her own team (batters will not hit off a batting tee). The maximum number of pitches for a turn at bat shall be seven (7). If the player does not hit a fair ball he/she goes to first base if a swing was taken on at least four pitches. There are no strike-outs or walks.
  9. Players are required to wear a batting helmet, when batting and/or running.
  10. The final batter of the inning must be announced as such to the opposing coach who will advise the defensive team. After the last batter completes a turn at bat, play is stopped when the ball is held at home plate by any defensive player.
  11. The Official Ball will be the 11" Indoor Flexiballs.

U11A

  1. All games start at 6:30pm.
  2. No game may go beyond 8:00pm except to finish an inning. Umpire's decision is final when calling a game for darkness.
  3. The maximum number of innings is five (5).
  4. The minimum number of players required to play a game is eight (8). In such a case, an automatic out shall be awarded to the opposing team each time the batting turn of the missing player comes up in the batting order. Not in effect in Provincials (must have 9 players).
  5. The defensive team shall consist of a maximum of nine (9) players on the field.
  6. The 'Infield Fly Rule' is not in effect.
  7. The 'Run Ahead Rule' is in effect, where if one team is up by thirteen (13) runs after 2 1/2 or 3 innings or up by seven (7) runs after 3 1/2 or 4 innings, the team losing may concede defeat.
  8. The 'Dropped Third Strike Rule' is not in effect. The batter is out on the third strike, regardless if the ball is caught or not, and the ball remains alive. Base runners may advance at their own risk with liability to be put out.
  9. All players will appear on the batting order (whether they are in the field defensively or not). Eg. if 15 players show up for a game, all 15 go on the batting order and bat in turn.
  10. The 'Substitution Rule' does not apply. Players may be substituted freely without penalty. All eligible players shall be listed on the line-up card and shall bat in the order shown, the batting order cannot be changed.
  11. In the event a player is injured during the game and is unable to take their turn at bat, the player will be removed from the batting order and out for the balance of the game, unless the player's coach announces that the player will be able to continue to play prior to the team's next at bat. The team will not record an out in the batting spot formerly occupied by the injured player.
  12. Pitching distance - 30 feet.
  13. Baseline distance - 45 feet.
  14. The maximum number of innings a pitcher may pitch is three (3) per game. One pitch (legal or illegal) thrown in an inning shall count as an inning pitched.
  15. Players are required to wear a batting helmet, complete with an approved mask when batting and/or running.
  16. Stealing bases (2nd and 3rd) is allowed at all times when the ball is alive. Stealing Home is prohibited. Runners may advance Home only on a hit ball.
  17. Defensive players are required to wear an approved face mask when on the field.
  18. The offensive team shall have a maximum of six (6) runs per inning or three (3) outs, whichever comes first.
  19. Once a batter reaches four (4) balls in the count, the batter will receive the number of soft toss pitches to continue the strike count when four (4) balls was reached. Example: the count was 4 balls, 1 strike, the batter would receive 2 soft tosses. Every soft toss thrown will be considered a strike. On a soft toss hit, the hitter may advance to 2nd base as able, but will not advance past 2nd base. Runners on base may advance a maximum of two (2) bases on a soft toss hit.
  20. U10 will use a larger Home plate - 21 inches.
  21. The Official Ball will be the Worth 11" Indoor Softball.

U13A

  8. The 'Dropped Third Strike Rule' is not in effect. The batter is out on the third strike, regardless if the ball is caught or not, and the ball remains alive. Base runners may advance at their own risk with liability to be put out.
  9. Mandatory Roster Batting. All players will appear on the batting order (whether they are in the field defensively or not). Eg. if 15 players show up for a game, all 15 go on the batting order and bat in turn.

  16. Defensive players are required to wear an approved face mask when on the field.
  17. The offensive team shall have a maximum of six (6) runs per inning or three (3) outs, whichever comes first.
  18. The Official Ball will be the Worth 11" Red Dot Softball.
  19. Each player must play a minimum of 2 innings. In a 'Run Ahead Rule' game a team will not be penalized if they are not able to play all team members.

U15A

  14. The maximum number of innings a pitcher may pitch is four (4) for a 7 inning game, and three (3) for a 5 inning game. One pitch (legal or illegal) thrown in an inning shall count as an inning pitched. In the event that a game goes into extra innings, the limitation on innings is waived.
  15. Players are required to wear a batting helmet, complete with an approved mask when batting and/or running.
  16. Defensive players are required to wear an approved face mask when on the field.
  17. The offensive team shall have a maximum of six (6) runs per inning or three (3) outs, whichever comes first.
  18. The Official Ball will be the Worth 12" Red Dot Softball.
  19. Each player must play a minimum of 2 innings. In a 'Run Ahead Rule' game a team will not be penalized if they are not able to play all team members.

 

U17A

  3. The maximum number of innings is seven (7).
  4. The minimum number of players required to play a game is eight (8). In such a case, an automatic out shall be awarded to the opposing team each time the batting turn of the missing player comes up in the batting order. Not in effect in Provincials (must have 9 players).
  5. The defensive team shall consist of a maximum of nine (9) players on the field.
  6. The 'Infield Fly Rule' is in effect.
  7. The 'Run Ahead Rule' is in effect. In an uncontrolled game if the home team is winning by 10 or more runs, the game will end after 3 1/2 innings of play. A game will end after 4 complete innings of play if the visiting team is winning by 10 or more runs.
    In a controlled game, if one team is up by thirteen (13) runs after 4 1/2 or 5 innings or up by seven (7) runs after 5 1/2 or 6 innings, the 'Run Ahead Rule' is in effect.
  8. The 'Dropped Third Strike Rule' is in effect.
  9. Mandatory Roster Batting. All players will appear on the batting order (whether they are in the field defensively or not). Eg. if 15 players show up for a game, all 15 go on the batting order and bat in turn.
